Why You Should Go… An Intern’s Perspective

I believe helping Civic Support with this type of event is not only beneficial for them as a company, but for them as advocates for internships. Working alongside Civic Support is such an amazing experience for college students like myself. You get the chance to learn first hand what it means to work with a marketing firm and not just stick to one task.

I have learned the art of market research which is very intense. Sometimes you get an assignment and you doubt yourself, but with the resources that were available to me, it was never as hard as I’d originally thought.  I also was able to explore my likes and dislikes. Though my major is marketing, I was never really sure what I wanted to do with the degree!  I did know I enjoyed writing, but what I really enjoyed was being behind the event.

Civic Support showed me new ways to design blog posts and press releases that I myself would have never thought to be able to do before, they allowed my own voice to be noticed. When you work with great people you end up with great experiences. Through the numerous fundraisers we put together I was able to see the impact they had on the community around us.

Also, it’s a great way for a college students to see life beyond the campus. Being on campus day in and day out can be overwhelming. There are times that you just want to get away and see a different scenery in New Bedford. As soon as you step off the LOOP (the shuttle bus from campus) it’s like you’ve entered another world. I LOVED the area because I could always tell my friends about the art just a few blocks from my job, or even the boutiques around the corner.

Civic Support is a great investment because you’re contributing to a good cause for individuals like myself. I would love to work here my senior year and be able to push more fun and exciting events out into the community!
