This week’s non-profit organization of the week is YouthBuild U.S.A. which is a national nonprofit with sections in New Bedford and Fall River. YouthBuild’s mission is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income youth to rebuild their communities and their lives. YouthBuild has been around since 1988 and have over 110,000 YouthBuild students who have successfully built over 21,000 affordable and environment friendly units that go back to their local community.
The main goal of YouthBuild is to inspire kids that live in low income communities and want to better themselves and the environment they call home. The concept behind this nonprofit is that when given the chance, inner city youth will stand up and proudly serve. YouthBuild U.S.A. help’s inspire those to take pride in the communities in which they live and give them the opportunity to succeed.
Currently YouthBuild U.S.A. held an event in Boston in which the Mayor, Thomas Menino, was there showing his support as they worked to fundraise money for YouthBuild. In other news, their section out in Los Angeles is pushing for a program that encourages youth to attend a postsecondary education. They are working with many big nonprofits such as Jobs For The Future, National Youth Employment Coalition, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
YouthBuild U.S.A.’s impact on our community, and communities all over, is incredible. It gives inspiration to the youth that live in low income areas to have the “can do” attitude by building such great buildings that their community can use, all while making it green for the environment. Their push for the youth to further their education and better themselves is greatly improving, and showing its effectiveness, with over more than 110,000 current and alumni YouthBuild students. YouthBuild U.S.A. is a program that will forever benefit our communities by giving the future generation the inspiration and energy to do great things.
